Delta-8

Delta-8

The cannabis plant comes with a wide array of compounds, with one of them being Delta-8. Confused by many to be THC, the Delta-8 is the main component of the cannabis plant that gets you high. Furthermore, it is worth noting that there are vast amounts of THC in cannabis strains. However, when consumed, the Delta-Eight in cannabis strains triggers many emotions got its consumers.

Understanding Delta-8 and Delta-9

The similarities and differences associated with these two cannabinoids lie in their chemical structure and names. What we commonly know as THC is delta-9, delta-9 THC, or 9-tetrahydrocannabinol. Delta-Eight, on the other hand, is the short form of delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol. Amongst other things, Delta-8 THC comes with similar effects to the delta-9 THC but less potent.

It is worth noting that both delta-eight and delta-9 are forms of THC. Furthermore, when people refer to THC, they often refer to delta-9 THC. With the legality of the delta-8 a little hazy, it emanates from either hemp or cannabis. Engineered by the 2018 farm bill, hemp is cultivated legally and used for extractions across the United States, meaning while delta-Eight is legal in states, delta-9 THC, on the other hand, is illegal.

The Availability of Delta-Eight

The delta-8 on offer in the market today comes from the hemp-derived CBD, making it federally legal thanks to its origin. Also, people in states where THC is illegal but desire products rich in it have turned to delta-Eight because it may be permitted in their State and less potent than THC. Due to soaring demand for delta-8, man producers are upping production levels to meet the new markets and shipping across the United States.

Delta-8 vs. delta-9 THC

Delta-Eight, like delta-9 (regular THC), binds to the body’s endocannabinoid system, which causes you to feel high. Chemically, delta-8 and delta-9 are similar in that they both have a double bond in their structures. This double bond produces intoxicating effects that make you feel high. Though both THC’s have different chemical placements of the double bond, they also have a chain of carbon atoms.

While delta-8 has a double bond on the eighth carbon, its delta-9 counterpart has it on the ninth. Delta-8 binds the endocannabinoid system in a somewhat different pattern due to the location of its double bond. All of which is testament to why many think of the delta-eight to be not so potent as regular THC

Final Note

Should you desire effects similar to that, you’d get from THC but with reduced potency, then delta-eight is for you. However, if you need to seek relief from some symptoms but with minor intoxication, the CBD is a must-have for you.
